Perry 200 Commemoration CONCERT

“Bravo, Bravo, Bravo"!”

The Perry 200 “Independence Week” opened with an exciting, world-class concert that thrilled the audience and captured the spirit of this historic bicentennial commemoration.

Erie was provided an evening of the best of American music, performed by the best of America’s artists. Because of your talents and commitment to our youth, symphony performance, and excellence, you created a special evening.

We extend our gratitude and appreciation to you, the Pennsylvania Chamber Symphony, and the Young Artists Debut Orchestra for making Perry 200 in 2012 memorable. It truly was a “Star Spangled” evening.

Congratulations,

Joyce A. Savocchio
General Co-Chair Perry 200

Preserving the Legacy of Harry T. Burleigh

On Friday, May 20, 2022, guest soprano Olanna Goudeau joined the Young Artists Debut Orchestra to present a few of Harry T. Burleigh’s orchestrated spirituals—Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Go Down Moses, and Oh, Didn’t It Rain.

In February 2007, the late Charles Kennedy, Jr., founder of Erie’s Harry T. Burleigh Society, introduced Burleigh’s unique orchestrations of African-American Spirituals to Maestro Collura. Subsequently, Mr. Kennedy offered the Young Artists Debut Orchestra the honor of becoming the first youth orchestra to present the World Premiere Performances of original orchestrations of Harry T. Burleigh’s traditional Spirituals!
