The Young Artists Debut Orchestra’s Summer Music Academy (SMA) is an intensive weeklong program for string players. This program offers one-on-one instruction, coaching, orchestral training and guidance, by an outstanding teaching and conducting staff.

Our SMA staff are exclusively chosen for their years of experience and for their vast accomplishments in music education methodology. Students, ages 6-21, from beginners to advanced, will experience what it means to become the “complete musician,” by receiving technical training and essential coaching, which has been a hallmark of the SMA’s music education program for the past seventeen years.

The Summer Music Academy program provides the most successful method of teaching, where Teaching Artists sit “side-by-side” with students at rehearsals and public performances, to accomplish the following goals:

  • Address and correct technical problems as they arise during rehearsals.

  • Refine existing skills in students.

  • Teach and demonstrate important details of technique and interpretive styles.

  • Provide students the opportunity to learn more challenging repertoire.

  • Instruct students through the complexities of difficult and challenging music.

  • Teach students orchestral protocol and proper rehearsal demeanor.

  • Encourage and instill confidence and self-esteem in young musicians.

  • Serve as role models during rehearsals and public performances.

The Summer Music Academy provides students with the following benefits:

  • The opportunity to engage in a comprehensive music program of the highest quality.

  • Private lessons from an outstanding Teaching Artists faculty.

  • Full tuition scholarships for students who qualify as low income.

  • Quality stringed instruments loaned to students who cannot afford their own.

  • Participation in small ensembles, at the student’s particular skill level.

  • A Music Director/Conductor with World Class credentials and International experience.

  • Mentoring and coaching by Teaching Artists, during “side-by-side” rehearsals and performances, proven to be the most effective method where students learn their craft.

  • A knowledge of music theory and a development of instrumental skills that will enable a student to understand and to successfully perform their repertoire.

  • The opportunity to learn repertoire appropriate to a student’s skill level.

  • A free and open to the public Finale Concert, where students showcase their newly acquired music abilities.

With the financial support and generosity of our Donors, Sponsors and Grantors, the Summer Music Academy’s complete music education experience will continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of our students and in our community.
